AN ABANDONED blind elderly dog is looking for a new home after spending time on the streets.

Staff at The Sunnyside dog home, where 10-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier Boomer is staying, believe his breed, age and blindness could put potential new owners off.

“Boomer is a gentle boy who is very cuddly and still likes his walks.”[/caption]

Boomer was discovered as a stray and taken to the doggy home near Wolverhampton to be nursed back to health.

Rachel Frost, Sunnyside digital marketing officer, said to Staffordshire Live: “Boomer is a gentle boy who is very cuddly and still likes his walks.

“He needs a calm home, which is understandable given his age and condition.

“Staffordshire bull terriers are fantastic family pets. They make great companions for families with or without children.

“It’s all about how they are brought up and adapt to the situation, but they are known for becoming part of the family.”

There has been a sharp rise in the number of strays and abandoned pets taken in at The Sunnyside, which is part of the Birmingham Dogs Home (BDH) charity in Solihull.

About 150 unwanted pooches were taken in across BDH’s two centres last year. This figure has gone up from 115 in the previous year.
