WE’VE all been there haven’t we?
You back a horse the Grand National, tell all your mates that it’s a certainty and then they go and fall at the first.
Yep, that’s exactly the case with me and Vintage Clouds this year. But fear not because he can gain quick compensation for that fall in Saturday’s Scottish Grand National.
Two years ago Paul Nicholls’ Vicente – also running in Trevor Hemmings’ silks – fell at the first in the Grand National.
He then went on to win the Scottish National for the second year in a row after that fall and this year Vintage Clouds can follow in his footsteps.
Sue Smith’s nine-year-old has run in the race twice before, finishing seventh behind Vicente in 2017 before a cracking third in the race 12 months ago.
He returned to action after a wind op this year with a strong staying performance behind Beware The Bear at Cheltenham and hopes were high for his Aintree outing.
Obviously that did not go to plan and he returned home with a big fat ‘F’ next to his name.

However, he now heads to Ayr a relatively fresh horse after failing to get past the first fence!
Sue’s husband Harvey reported Vintage Clouds to be in good shape following the fall and with all eyes now on the Scottish National.
He said: “He is 101% correct. He jumped the fence too well and pitched on landing. It’s one of those things.
“The important thing is he is fine and he will go for the Scottish National now.”
So don’t jump off the Vintage Clouds bandwagon just yet, get back on for the weekend!
