"Many Photos" - Anthrax scare at Eric Idle's home after 'an employee opens an envelope with a powdery substance'

A suspicious powder was sent to the Hollywood Hills home of Monty Python comedian Eric Idle, it has been reported.

Emergency personnel in hazmat suits rushed to the 3100 block of Floye Drive after an employee called police on Monday evening.

The employee went to get the mail and noticed the unusual powder in an opened piece of certified mail, according to TMZ

Investigators are treating the incident as an anthrax scare, although there is no official word as to the specific nature of the powder.

The home belongs to Idle and his wife, former model Tania Kosevich, Fox 11 TV reported.

The 5,200-square-foot Spanish villa sits next to a property owned by another famous British comedy act, Sacha Baron Cohen.

Idle bought the home more than 20 years ago for $1.5 million.

Last October, Idle said he has no plans to revive Monty Python for this year's 50th anniversary of the show – describing the group’s reunion in 2014 as their 'goodbye'.

The surviving members of Monty Python – John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Idle – last performed in a series of stage shows in 2014 to meet the costs of losing a court case to the producer of the Holy Grail film.

This year is the anniversary of the first series of Monty Python’s Flying Circus debuting on BBC.

Idle also spoke fondly of sketch writing with the Pythons and said he would often be outnumbered by the Graham Chapman/John Cleese and Michael Palin/Terry Jones partnerships.

'We wrote sketches and got together and read them out. If we laughed they went in the show and if we didn’t laugh we sold them to the Two Ronnies,' Idle said in October.

'If Michael Palin was reading a sketch out, Terry Jones would be laughing all the way through, whereas I had to read it out to four blank faces.'

Despite writing the book, the 76-year-old does not have plans to stop just yet and is working on a film based on his hit Broadway musical Spamalot.

'I quite thought this would be my last thing, and I said to the wife, "That’s it, can I stop now please?" and she said yes, but she was lying,' he joked.

'I don’t think I am going to stop writing because I like the activity.

'I like not doing anything too, and I love going to France and reading for months on end. I read history, I read novels.'

Last summer, police in Los Angeles said they had evacuated a building where Rep. Maxine Waters has an office amid a scare linked to anthrax.

In the July 24 incident, officials said that a suspicious package was reported address to the name 'Anne Thrax,' prompting an investigation. A hazmat team subsequently cleared the property and forwarded the probe to the FBI and LAPD's Major Crimes Division.

Anthrax deaths and threats dominated the U.S. headlines in the months following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, as five people were killed and 17 others injured amid a spate of deadly letters sent in the months following the terrorist attack.

Letters containing the deadly bacteria were sent to news outlets in New York City and Florida, as well as a Washington, D.C. congressional office.

The victims included two U.S. postal service workers, a Florida photo editor, a New York City hospital worker and a Connecticut woman.
