"Many Photos" - Killing Eve fans furious as new series of the hit BBC show airs in America

Killing Eve fans are livid that the new series of the BBC show has aired in America, but they will have to wait months to see it.

Viewers in the US gushed about the latest outing in the intense drama, as they praised lead actresses Jodie Comer, 26, and Sandra Oh, 47, for their outstanding performances in the first episode of the second season.

But fans of the show in the UK were left fuming as they begged American viewers not to spoil anything and demanded the BBC say when it would be released across the pond.

The reason for the delay is that Killing Eve is specially commissioned for BBC America.

It appears in the US first, before all eight episodes are uploaded to iPlayer, but this will take months, leaving UK viewers livid.

Taking to Twitter to express their fury, fans demanded the BBC tell them when they could watch the second series of the crime drama.

One user said: 'fuming that america get season two of killing eve in a few hours yet the uk are still waiting for a release date.'

Another said: 'Release Killing Eve into the UK already you monsters.'

In complete contrast US fans have been sharing love for the second season's first episode which aired on Sunday, one user wrote: 'so here's the thing if Jodie Comer isn't nominated for every goddamn possible award this year...'

While another added: 'I'd give Villanelle anything! Bravo Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh! Superb acting from both!'

Praising Sandra's take on her role as the MI5 officer, one viewer gushed: 'I love @IamSandraOh and her reactions as Eve so much. So good.'

Although she's a psychopathic killer, one user couldn't help but share their adoration for the caracter, as they said: 'Oh my god! Villanelle is the funniest! How can you not adore her!! So happy that show is back.'

British fans of the show were irritated that the show had already begun airing in the US with no release in the UK announced.

One fumed: '@KillingEve please stop retweeting comments about s2 ep1. You're spoiling it for your UK viewers'

Taking a slightly more aggressive approach, another user said: 'WTF @BBCOne @KillingEve Why is #KillingEveS2 not airing in the UK????? How rude! Sort it out, please!'

Another hit out: 'Isn't it great that Killing Eve is back... if you live in the US... us Brits have no idea when we'll see it, thanks @bbc'

The slick and often gruesome thriller explores the obsessive relationship between MI5 agent Eve and a psychotic and supremely stylish Paris-based assassin named Villanelle.

Eve knows she must catch the chameleon-like killer before there’s another murder but finds herself becoming more fascinated by the beautiful Villanelle – all the time knowing she could be her next victim.

Sandra won a Screen Actors Guild award, a Golden Globe and a Critic's Choice Television award for her performance of the professional but emotionally flawed Eve.

The actress and her co-star Jodie Comer, who plays stylish assassin Villanelle, are both up for the Leading Actress gong at the BAFTA Television Awards 2019.

The hit BBC series has led the BAFTA Television Awards 2019 nominations with a whopping 14 nods, including the Drama Series award.

Did Bafta bend the rules to gift Killing Eve with 14 nominations? BBC’s hit spy drama should have only received an international drama nod - because it premiered in the US

Bafta may have bent its own rules to net the hit spy comedy Killing Eve a massive 14 nominations for this year's awards.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge's show left rivals trailing when it secured more nominations than any other programme for the Baftas.

But technically it may only be entitled to one, due to the fact that Jodie Comer's portrayal of assassin Villanell first aired in the US.

The rules state that eligibility for a nomination means series 'must have had the worldwide premiere transmission in the UK' between 1 January and 31 December 2018.

They also say 'a UK broadcaster must have the primary editorial control over the programme'.

The only exception to these guidelines is found in nominations for the international series category.

Killing Eve - which stars Sandra Oh as MI5 agent Eve Posner - was originally commissioned by BBC America.

The US pay TV channel is owned by both the BBC and the American network AMC and the show first premiered in the states in April.

The licence fee does not fund BBC America, which is a separate entity to the British original.

Killing Eve only appeared on UK screens when the BBC acquired the show in June 2018.

So the rules suggest that technically Killing Eve could only be nominated for an international series nod.

But Bafta has responded to the eligibility fallout saying its TV committee considers it a British show because of 'significant creative contribution from key UK talent throughout the production'.

Its statement did not address the fact that Killing Eve premiered in the US five months before its UK debut.

A spokesman for Bafta said: 'BAFTA’s Television Committee deems Killing Eve a British series.

'Killing Eve received 14 nominations, 9 of which were eligible under BAFTA’s criteria, and 5 of which were deemed eligible by the TV committee due to the significant creative contribution from key UK talent throughout the production.

'The Television committee is the arbiter of all eligibility.'

Its British credentials include creator Waller-Bridge, Bloomsbury-based production firm Sid Gentle Films and the Codename Villanelle series of books, penned by Luke Jennings.

The show's origins are also British, as the series was originally in development at Sky before BBC America got hold of it.

Sid Gentle said in a statement that it was 'absolutely thrilled' its 'small small British series has made waves around the world'.

Killing Eve is set for a second series next month - which will also air in America before Britain. A launch is expected on BBC One and Three later this year.

As well as being nominated for 14 Baftas, the first series saw Sandra Oh take the Golden Globe for Actress in a Drama TV Series. The programme was also nominated for a Drama TV Series Golden Globe.
