"Many Photos" - Jose Mourinho ‘in contact’ with Roma over return to Serie A as Inter Milan look to appoint Antonio Conte

JOSE MOURINHO has been “in contact” with Roma to discuss taking over at the Stadio Olimpico, reports in Italy claim.

Mourinho, 56, has been out of managerial work since he was axed from Manchester United in December.

The Porguegese looked in line for a return to Real Madrid – until club legend Zinedine Zidane was favoured over “The Special One”.

However, Sky Italia report that Mourinho has spoken to Roma chiefs over the phone to discuss a move back to Serie A.

The negotiations are at an early stage, though it is claimed the ex-Chelsea manager is desperate to return to football.

Ex-Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri took over in Rome in March but only signed a contract till the end of the season – but with an option to extend.

Mourinho has also been in touch with Inter Milan to discuss a return to the club, having won two Seria A titles, one Coppa Italia and also lifting the Champions League in his two year stint at the San Siro.

Inter sit third in Serie A but the club still want to replace Luciano Spalletti in favour of a fresh start to challenge champions of the past seven years Juventus.

Talks with Mourinho have been ongoing, however, it is claimed the manager demands an £8.5million deal while Inter chiefs are only willing to offer £6.9m.

The San Siro return will be backed by Mourinho’s ex-player and now Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti, but CEO Beppe Marotta favours ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

Marotta appointed Conte as Juventus head coach in 2011, with the Italian winning the Serie A title in each of his three campaigns at the helm.

Having enjoyed great success together in Turin, Marotta is keen to reunite with Conte in Milan.
