"Many Photos" - Four-bed house covered in pigeon poo sells for DOUBLE the asking price for £100k at auction

A FOUR-bedroom house that is covered in pigeon poo has sold at auction – for £100,000.

The semi-detached property in Ilfracombe, Devon, has views of the Bristol Channel but the top two floors are caked in poo that is 1ft high in places.

Father and son duo John and Guy Jones paid more than double the £45,000 asking price for the house.

“I just wish that less people had seen it,” Mr Jones said.

“I could have got it a bit cheaper.”

Lee Hussell director of estate agents Webbers said the project was “not for the faint-hearted”.

But the local pair, who are both property developers, said they “fancied the challenge”.

As well as being plastered in poo, the property is missing windows, has no staircase to the first floor, and some of the ceilings have collapsed.

Mr Hussell said he was astonished by the level of attention the property received.

“It was picked up all over the UK and then we saw it popping up on sites in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa,” he said.

“People were sharing it left, right and centre.”

New owner Guy Jones said the clean-up was going to be a “nightmare” but he was looking forward to getting stuck in.

Number 1 Coburg Villas in Ilfracombe, Devon, was described as a large, terraced house with big rooms, outdoor space and stunning views over the Bristol channel but because of the problems it’s been given a price tag of just £45,000.

Prospective buyers were warned the project is not for the faint-hearted and it needs a lot of work.

As well as the pigeon problem there are missing windows, no staircase to the first floor, fallen in ceilings and several rotten floors.

House was lived in until the end of last year.

He said previously: “The lady who lived here kept herself to herself and has now moved into rented accommodation.

“The property is in a very sorry state of repair but has massive potential.

“Due to the structural state of the building and the large amount of pigeon waste, which is a hazardous substance, we are not able to offer any viewings on this property.”

A virtual tour of the property was filmed for marketing purposes by Panoptic Motion, which featured a man wearing a large pigeon head hovering behind a door on the third floor.

Lee added: “The people at Panoptic Motion were able to go in and provide a virtual tour – which obviously has a big surprise on the third floor.

“We knew nothing about this until we looked through it ourselves, but it’s very funny and tongue-in-cheek and the more we can get people talking about this property the better.”

Lee said the state of the property – as well as the surprise in the virtual tour – has led to tens of thousands of views of the property online.

He said: “It’s gone properly viral – we’ve had people contacting us to say its been shared in Australia.

“So far thousands of people have seen the property online so I’m hopeful for a fair bit of interest when it comes to auction.”
