The Grand National comes to town and I cannot wait for the forty horses to strut their stuff in the world’s greatest race.
It’s been a mixed meeting for Team Ditcheat so far, but hopefully we can end the three days on a high!
There’s plenty to look forward to for Meg as the Aintree Festival concludes.[/caption]
Grand National
As always, the big one is almost impossible to call.
Tiger Roll obviously has a massive chance and is a worthy favourite for Gordon Elliott.
He’s an absolute legend and on what he’s done this year he deserves to be heading the market.
Anibale Fly is worth considering too as he ran a huge race in the Cheltenham Gold Cup to finish second.
He’s copped top-weight but could pop into a place.
Walk In The Mill is my other pick. He won over these fences in the Becher Chase back in December and has been running over hurdles to protect his handicap mark.
He has a big place shout.

Gaskells Handicap Hurdle
Earlier on the card, Sire Du Berlais has an obvious chance in the opener.
He was well-backed when winning the Pertemps at Cheltenham and now gets the services of Jonjo O’Neill Jr and his handy 3lb claim.
It’s a big ask to carry top weight to victory in this but he’s in form and should be bang there.
At a slightly bigger price, one that appeals is Poker Play. He won well at Uttoxeter last time in heavy ground and there could well be more to come from him.
Betway Mersey Novices’ Hurdle
Brewin’upastorm is probably a worthy favourite in the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.
He’s had some good form this year and ran well in the Ballymore over 2m5f.
This slightly flatter track and step back in trip should suit him well and if he’s bounced back from Cheltenham then he’ll be tough to beat.
Angel’s Breath is a horse I’m not completely sure about. We beat him in the Dovecote with Southfield Stone and connections then said two miles was too short for him in the Supreme.
He looks a hard one to weigh up and I’m more keen on One For Rosie, who’s a similar type and hasn’t done a lot wrong.
He’s up in grade now and will have to improve but some of his form has worked out quite well and he’s run good races on soft ground.

Maghull Novices’ Chase
Us And Them was a well-beaten second in the Arkle and has now finished runner-up four times – not because he doesn’t want to win but because he’s bumped into a few.
The race has cut up massively and this is clearly a good opportunity for him, but I can see the prize going to something at a bigger price.
Henry De Bromhead’s Ornua has some decent form and could be the one to do the business.
Liverpool Hurdle
Apple’s Jade flopped in the Champion Hurdle and they’re unsurprisingly stepping her back up in trip to three miles now.
She’s not really performed at Cheltenham in recent years and she’s had a hard season – that said, if she bounces back then she’ll be hard to beat.
Sam Spinner looked back to his best at Cheltenham and If The Cap Fits is improving too, so there are plenty who could trouble the favourite.
Betway Handicap Chase
We run Touch Kick in the Betway Handicap Chase at 4.20.
He ran really well at Cheltenham but didn’t quite get home and I think a slight step back in trip on a flatter track will suit him well.
That was a career-best run last time and he must have an each-way shout.
Mister Malarky is a fair favourite. He was fourth in the RSA and has improved leaps and bounds this year.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on back in a Grade 3, though he has to carry quite a lot of weight.
This week's runners
Clan Des Obeaux ran a massive race behind Kemboy in the Betway Bowl.
The ground went against him and he’s had a hard season but it was still a very good performance.
The winner was very impressive and by the time we made our challenge was away and gone.
We were also delighted with Christopher Wood.
It would have been preferable to have run him on better ground, but that’s life and he ran a very nice race.
He knocked the second-last out of the ground which probably knocked the stuffing out of him.
He’s one to look out for in the future for sure.
It’s a shame the rain came down and affected the ground so much. I imagine it will end being tacky which is a real disappointment.
Weatherbys Bumper
I like Lord Yeats in the finale. He was a decent horse on the Flat and goes well in soft ground.
He’s been in good form since switching codes and could be on a sensible mark with Tommy Dowson taking the reins.
Chepstow calling
Over at Chepstow, we run Oleg in the novice hurdle at 3.30.
He won his first and only start for us and should handle the better ground and different track now.
He was tough that day and with any luck he’s improved a bit.
I’m looking forward to him next year when he’s strengthened up.
We run Is A Real Champ in the bumper.
He’s a lovely, big horse who’s very much one for the notebook.
Once he’s had his holidays and come back next year he could be very, very smart.
He needs to fill out his frame but he does everything nicely and it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
He’s ready to go and I’m sure will come on for the run. Definitely keep an eye out for him in the future.
