ACTOR Ed O’Neill has revealed that he has an unexpected connection to royalty in the form of Meghan Markle.
Appearing on US talk show Ellen on Monday he told the hostess that the Duchess of Sussex was a regular on the set of his 80s sitcom Married With Children when she was just nine-years-old.
The Modern Family star was taking part in a game of Who’s This where he had to identify some of the world’s most famous celebs after he revealed he had failed to recognise Britney Spears and Taylor Swift when they stopped him for a photo.
Shown a picture of the pregnant Duchess, he recognised her almost immediately before sharing their connection.
He told Ellen Degeneres: “Oh by the way she grew up on the set of Married With Children did you know that? Her father was a camera operator.
He added: “She used to come on the set in a little catholic school uniform, she was like nine.”
Meghan herself has previously spoken about visiting the set of the sitcom herself where her father Thomas Markle worked for ten of 11 series.
In an interview with Esquire in 2013 she said: “Every day after school for 10 years, I was on the set of Married With Children, which is a really funny and perverse place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up.
“There were a lot of times my dad would say, “Meg, why don’t you go and help with the craft services room over there? This is just a little off-color for your 11-year-old eyes.”
Meghan of course went on to pursue an acting career herself most famously playing Rachel Zane on the sitcom Suits, which she gave up to marry Prince Harry in May last year, which her estranged father did not attend.
It is thought to be just a matter of weeks until the royal couple welcome their first child together with their due date thought to be the end of April.
It is believed that Meghan has shunned the Lindo Wing where Kate Middleton gave birth to her three children.

Instead, the couple have opted for a maternity unit closer to their Windsor home.
A source said: “Harry and Meghan realise there is intense public interest but this baby is not a direct heir to the throne and they want the birth to be as private as possible.”
In other royal news Meghan is being urged not to damage new mums and skip the Kate Middleton tradition of posing outside the hospital after giving birth.
And a royal expert claims Harry wanted Kate and Meghan to be best friends, but they’re just too different.
