"Many Photos" - Oldham town centre lockdown: Bomb squad investigate suspicious package

Oldham town centre is on lockdown after a bomb squad was called to reports of a suspicious package in a set of bins. 

Police said a number of residents in the town in Greater Manchester, have been evacuated as a result of the scare this morning.

Explosive ordnance experts have been called to the scene on Bow Street, where a cordon is in place.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: 'Shortly before 11am today, police were called to reports of a suspicious package on Bow Street in Oldham.

'An assessment is currently being made and EOD are attending the scene. 

'Some residents have been evacuated as a precaution. A safety cordon is in place on Bow Street. At this stage the disruption caused is believed to be minimal.'
