"Many Photos" - BA flight from London to Milan U-turns and returns to Heathrow

A British Airways plane from Heathrow to Milan was diverted back to London mid-flight. 

Live airspace services which show the path of the aircraft has revealed the BA568 flight from Heathrow performing a U-turn over Paris and travelling back to London.  

The two-hour flight to Milan's Linate airport was scheduled to take off from Heathrow's Terminal 5 at 2.55pm today but was delayed until 3.23pm.

No emergency was called but it was decided it was easier to take the aircraft back to London instead of continuing onto Milan.

Passengers on the plane were to be transferred onto a different aircraft and should arrive in Milan tonight, a BA spokesman said. 

The delay to the take-off of the plane had nothing to do with the plane returning to London.  

A British Airways spokesman said: 'The aircraft returned to Heathrow as a precaution after a minor technical issue.

'We apologise to our customers for the delay in their travels plans.'
