A MAN sold his kidney so he could buy a new iPhone – but is now bed-ridden and unable to work, according to reports.
The donor, known only as Wang, earned £2,528 (22,000 yuan) when he flogged the organ on the Chinese black market.
The man, now 25, sold it when he was 17-year’s old.
Local media reports that he wanted to buy new tech but his family was too poor to afford the gadgets.
It is claimed he found dodgy organ harvesting middle-men on an online forum called QQ.
Speaking to CNTV.cncn, Wang said: “At the time, I wanted to buy an iPad2, but I didn’t have any money.
“When I was on the Internet, I had a kidney agent send a message, saying that selling a kidney can give me 20,000.”
He took a secret trip from his home in the eastern Anhui Province to the southern Hunan Province, it is claimed.
He did not let his parents know about the plans.
Two surgeons, a surgery assistant and a nurser allegedly carried out the sick op.
A sick recipient paid £17,258 – and £7,860 in add-ons – for the organ, it is claimed.
Wang treated himself to an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 with the spoils.
Cops were called when his mum found out what he had done, and an investigation was launched.
Nine people were jailed for being involved in 2012.

Wang’s health deteriorated and he suffered renal failure, according to CCTV.com.
He and his family were awarded £169,000 (1.47 million yuan) compensation.
