Rio Ferdinand does not see a way back for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly after he was substituted after just 18 minutes against Newcastle. 

Jose Mourinho made the change to his Manchester United side after they conceded two goals in the first 10 minutes at Old Trafford.

The under-pressure boss called on midfielder Juan Mata to replace centre back Bailly.

Kenedy opened the scoring for the visitors in the seventh minute before Yoshinori Muto doubled the Magpies' lead just three minutes later to mount the problems on Mourinho.   

Former United defender Ferdinand gave his verdict on the substitution at half-time. 

'I feel sorry for Scott McTominay – he's a central midfielder being forced to play centre half,’ he said on BT Sport's coverage of the Premier League match.
