And he is ready to offer over £10million to land the former France Under-21 international.

Maupay, 22, has been sensational in the Championship for Dean Smith’s promotion hopefuls this season.

The striker notched his tenth goal of the campaign against Leeds on Saturday and has three assists to his name, enough to convince Wagner’s spies he can step up a level.

He could prove a vital addition to Huddersfield, who have been desperately short of goals this term and during the second half of last season.

Maupay, who came through the ranks at Nice to make his debut at 16, could be tempted to go to the Premier League in January even if it will be to join a survival battle.

And the move is doubly appealing to Huddersfield as he could help them bounce back if they go down.

Goals are exactly what Wagner’s team is lacking at the moment.

Only four players have scored so far this season and no player has more than one goal.
