A WARM-HEARTED group is hanging free hot water bottles for the homeless from trees around the country.

As the mercury drops towards the end of the year, the free hot water bottles mean that many rough-sleeping Brits won’t go cold.

Each of the bottles is labelled with details of nearby businesses which have agreed to provide hot water that the person taking one can get warm water from for free.

The charitable scheme is run by The Hot Water Bottle Network, which works by setting up local Facebook groups in each of the cities they operate in.

The idea is to encourage local businesses to contribute water and act as drop-off points for donations to ensure that different areas are supporting their homeless population.

The Hot Water Bottle Network originally started in Brighton, but they now also have groups in Bath, Cardiff, Bristol and Manchester, with plans to also move into Nottingham and Swansea.

And the timing of this scheme couldn’t be more urgent as weather experts predict months of snow and ice storms heading to Britain.

Pete Wentland, 37, is a part-time student who started a Hot Water Bottle Network group in Bristol after he had been homeless himself.

He told The Times: “All it is supposed to be is an emergency measure, to bring a bit of comfort.

“I know what difference it makes just to be warm enough to get to sleep.

“It can also mean the difference between life and death.”

And it’s not just homeless people who have been given bottles.

People staying in temporary accommodation in Bristol have also benefited from the scheme.

If you would like to contribute to the Hot Water Bottle Network, search for your local group on Facebook or contact the organisers directly.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
