TYSON FURY says he hired trainer Ben Davison because of his ability to get girls’ phone numbers!
The Gypsy King lifted the lid on the job audition in a whacky Q&A session with fans in Cardiff as he prepares for a likely May rematch with WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder.
Davison, 26, has been a huge part of Fury’s impressive comeback since his life spiralled out of control in 2015 after he defeated Wladimir Klitschko to become WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion.
They first met 18 months ago when Fury was on a booze bender in Spain as he struggled with mental health issues, alcoholism and drug addiction.
Fury, 30, joked he “found him on a dating website”, but then added seriously: “He saved my life.
“He was working with Billy Joe Saunders in Spain and Billy invited me over. I was a 27-stone mess and thought a trip to Marbella would be a good way to get on the lash.
“But then I started doing pads with Ben and see if he had balls.
“There were two gorgeous girls walking by one day and I said, ‘Get their numbers and you can be my trainer’.
“He did a swagger and came back with both, so I said, ‘You’re hired!’.”
After a memorabilia auction at Cardiff’s Vale Sports Arena, where a glove signed by Fury, Wilder and WBA, IBF and WBO champ Anthony Joshua went for £1,200, Fury explained how his rematch with Wilder will go after a controversial draw in December.
He said: “He cannot get any better, but I will be 50 per cent better and his whole team knows that.

“Before the first fight, they saw my fat, ugly white body and bald head and thought I was s***. Then I Roy Jones-ed ’em and they were f***ed.
“However, I need a KO to get a draw in the rematch! They will do whatever they have to do to keep the belt in America.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Fury does not agree to a rematch clause if he beats Wilder as it would kibosh the biggest fight in British boxing history between Fury and AJ.
Fury said: “I don’t think it’ll happen because he is a big s***house. If you don’t want to fight Deontay ‘skinny legs’ Wilder for fifty million dollars then you aren’t going to fight me.”
Joshua, 29, is expected to announce a June bout with untested American Jarrell Miller, 30, next week.
AJ’s US debut in New York could bank him a career-high payday of £25million, but Fury added: “Miller looks like a big old fat boy but he can fight and will come to win.
“But people do not know who he is — no one is interested in it unless it’s one of the big names.”
